چکیده

Because the therapeutic and toxic effects of oral therapy with bronchodilator drugs are poorly documented in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), we investigated the effects of administration of terbutaline (5 mg) and of a combination drug (Marax) containing ephedrine (25 mg), theophylline (130 mg), and hydroxyzine (10 mg) on pulmonary function, sevenhour taped electrocardiograms, blood pressure, and symptoms in a controlled double-blind study in 16 such patients. Therapy with terbutaliae increased the forced expiratory volume in one second more than the combination drug (Marnx) at 30 minutes and one hour (P<0.0S), but both types of therapy improved the forced vital capacity and forced expirntory flow between 25 and 75

Physiologic effects of oral bronchodilators during rest and exercise in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

At rest and during exercise, noninvasive studies of cardiopulmonary physiology in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were carried out to determine the objective benefits of commonly used oral bronchodilator drugs in 15 stable patients without cardiovascular disease or reversible obstruction of airflow. Theophylline, terbutaline, a combination of theophylline and terbutal...

Bronchodilator treatment for partially reversible chronic obstructive airways disease.

The effect of six weeks' treatment with inhaled terbutaline (1 mg four times a day), optimised doses of theophylline (twice a day), the combination of theophylline and terbutaline, and placebo was studied in a randomised, double blind, crossover trial. Thirty patients with partially reversible chronic airflow obstruction and a mean forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) of 1.2 litres tha...

Cardiopulmonary Mortalities and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Attributed to Ozone Air Pollution

Background & Aims of the Study: Ozone is a summer pollutant which can cause respiratory complications, eye burning sensation and failure of immune defense against infectious diseases. Ahvaz city (southwestern Iran) is one of the seven polluted Iranian metropolises. In this study we examined the health impacts of ozone pollution in Ahvaz city during years 2010 and 2011. Ma...

Overlap Syndrome in Respiratory Medicine: Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are highly prevalent chronic diseases in the general population. Both are characterized by similar mechanisms: airway inflammation, airway obstruction, and airway hyperresponsiveness. However, the distinction between the two obstructive diseases is not always clear. Multiple epidemiological studies demonstrate that in elderly people with o...

Bronchodilator reversibility to low and high doses of terbutaline and ipratropium bromide in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

BACKGROUND There is uncertainty regarding the use of monotherapy or combination therapy with beta 2 agonists and anticholinergic drugs in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The measurement of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) or relaxed vital capacity (RVC) in the assessment of reversibility in these patients has also caused considerable debate. METHODS Tw...
